We are a family run sandwich breakfast, brunch, lunch and outside catering business based in Durham City. In 1992 we opened our first premises at 7 New Elvet located at the heart of Durham city centre, a stone’s throw away from Durham Cathedral and Castle, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After having built up a big following within the city’s vibrant small business and student community we decided, due to popular demand, that it was time expand to a secondary, complementary location.

In 2019, we opened The Picnic Basket sandwich Shack on the corner of Durham’s beautiful market place in the Prince Bishops Shopping centre so that we could further our offering and ensure that the workers, residents and students of Durham could enjoy our homemade sandwiches, pastries, salads and great coffee – switching to soups, baked potatoes and hot chocolates in the colder months!

Where possible we only use fresh, high quality, locally-sourced ingredients combined with second-to-none customer service, so that you continue to come back to us time and time again. We also cater for special dietary needs at both venues, please let us know of any dietary or allergen requirements you may have.
